The chicken legs were quite culinary for us, so we decided to hit the other side of the spectrum and do something easy-peasy for our next meal. We still found it in a cookbook though, so it counts.
It counts the same way the children having hot dogs on the fire and my having rosemary-skewered chicken at my sister's house counted for last week. A meal out of the ordinary, something new and different to broaden our horizons.
Tonight was yet another smash success...

And soaking it...

Mommy's loving the teamwork already. As soon as they get invested like this, I know it's going to be a success. Even if they don't like the food in the end, we're all working together, having fun, and making memories. Goodness, that was a bit sentimental of me. :)

Stacking the grill.

And here they learned how filthy charcoal is. :D

Didn't slow them down though. They were seriously invested in getting this meal going!

Here comes fire!

Look at how pretty our little wee patio grill is. :)

Making the spice rub.

Maybe nobody else has noticed the theme yet, but yes, my children practically live ON the table. Chairs are for wusses.

NOT thrilled with the sensation of raw meat...

Even less thrilled than her brother was!

Wrapping the corn like a boss.

She was very meticulous.

Start cooking, food! We're hungry!
![]() |
So simple. And so worth it. Tasty, tasty, tasty, tasty!

And Rebecca agreed! Steak is GOOD!

This is his, "Oh my god Mom it tastes like blood and stuff" face. I think he was secretly more concerned about the fact that I had showed them a picture of *where* on a cow the steak comes from. And he didn't want to eat cow butt. He's seen what they're covered in. :) He opted for a hot dog instead.
