It's Spring!

This year we will be doing a very *little* bit of gardening on our back patio. We have two pots of strawberries going already, several herbs, yesterday we planted an entire window box of carrots, my birthday apple trees are in the mail, and we'll be doing tomatoes as well once it gets warm enough.

BUT. 
That is not nearly enough. 


Auntie has been gracious enough to offer us use of her yard, provided Monday is Gardening Day and we come over and dig, plant, weed and harvest with the family. Of course, this is a terrible trial to us.  :D   She has the complete list, but we are most excited about: 
watermelon
cantaloupe
honeydew melon
pumpkins
more tomatoes
peppers
corn (even popcorn!)
lettuce
more carrots
cucumber
peas 
squash
and a TON more scrumptious just waiting to get in the ground, but you get the point! 


We've been over the farm several times digging up cinder blocks and hauling them back to make an additional raised bed in the backyard. We are planning so many plants that two raised beds will not even begin to contain it all. Not too long ago, the Bowlings lucked into a free rototiller and Melissa has grand plans for the rest of the yard. (Not kidding. Computerized, measured, calculated, calendared, color-coded, you have no idea!)


Last week we finally carted the rest of the cinder blocks back home and the delivery of dirt came in! I'll have to link Melissa's pictures of the dump truck delivery later on, but it was AWESOME. Last week we added carrot seeds to the already thriving garlic in the existing raised bed. Today we planted the very first seedlings to start in the house in a very sunshiny and warm corner of Melissa's office. 

WE ARE SO EXCITED!!!!
